Brazilian footballers elected to Government

FORMER Brazil striker and prolific off-field scorer Romario has been elected to office in Rio de Janeiro.
The footballer has been elected federal deputy for the city, handing him a seat in his country’s Congress, while fellow footballer and 1994 World Cup winning team-mate Bebeto was elected state deputy for Rio.
However Rio residents could have it worse – elsewhere, Brazilian clown Tiririca was elected as a federal deputy for Sao Paulo with the slogan: “What does a federal deputy do? Truly, I don’t know. But vote for me and I will find out for you.”
