THE unlikely figure of a black goat helped Niger to an unlikely win over Egypt in African Cup of Nations qualifying.
The 1-0 win for Niger was preceded by an unauthorised visit to the pitch by a witchdoctor with a black goat in tow, sparking rumours that black magic and not magic on the pitch was resposible for the win.
Rebutting the superstitious claims, Confederation of African Football technical director Mostafa Abdul-Menem said: “I really don’t see the reason why we are talking about some goat.
“Of course it’s the match commissioner’s responsibility to make sure that only the players are on the pitch, but it’s no big deal after all.
“Did the goat cause Egypt to lose?!”
