Green England lose to Les Bleus

andy carroll england.jpgANDY Carroll duly won his first full England cap tonight – and yet I’m not exactly eating my hat after declaring he was not ready for the international stage and hinting at a French win.
Sure he did okay – as well as Wayne Rooney’s played for England for years – but his exertions summed up his patchy team on the night.
England were uncertain, naive, isolated and outclassed by the supposedly freefalling French, who looked assured and flowing in possession as they strolled to a 2-1 Wembley win.
The Newcastle number 9 does have a future at this level, as will the likes of Walcott, Gibbs, Johnson and Henderson – just not at present, all at once, without more of a sturdy spine to the team than seemingly Steven Gerrard on his own.
