RESPECTED rumour merchants Sky Sports are reporting that Spurs centre back Jonathan Woodgate could be in line for a shock switch to Arsenal.
Just as the talented England international is close to a return from injury for Tottenham, Arsene Wenger may swoop to bolster his injury plagued defence.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had previously indicated he would allow Woodgate to leave on loan to regain his fitness.
They report: “Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his backline in this month’s transfer window due to injuries to regular stoppers Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastien Squillaci.
“And it is understood the Frenchman wants to raid Arsenal’s north London rivals for Woodgate to plug the gap in his side’s central defence.”
Now don’t get me wrong, I think Woodgate is a brilliant player when fully fit – but he’s always injured.
Perhaps this is one instance where Arsenal should splash a little cash and bring in a player like Per Mertesacker or Gary Cahill to last him more than a few months.
