A RATHER sad update to yesterday’s post about an injured owl that was booted off the pitch by a player in a Colombian league match.
It has been reported that vet Camilo Tapia said Atletico Junior’s owl – who was unnamed – went into shock today and died.
The bird had been in a serious condition having been taken in for treatment two days earlier after being hit by a football during the match, and then unceremoniously kicked from the pitch by Pereira defender Luis Moreno, leading to crowd chants of “murderer”.
Following the incident, Moreno said he has received threats: “There have been all kinds of things… on the telephone, everything.
“It wasn’t my intention to hurt the animal.
“It’s very difficult for me and my family who are in Panama and are afraid about all this.”
