Ref hassles Hassli over shirty celebration

ERIC Hassli had a cunning plan when he took to the field for Vancouver Whitecaps last night…
The French-born striker scored his team’s first ever MLS goal, a penalty against New England Revolution, and he tore off his shirt in celebration and threw it into the crowd.
Although normally a yellow card offence, the player had in fact worn an identical shirt underneath in anticipation of scoring, in order to escape punishment.
However the referee disagreed and still brandished a yellow, followed by a red as the striker was already on a caution from earlier in the match.
He said: “It was more for the fans. I’m really torn up.
“It really hurt that I was thrown off.
“I feel sorry for the team. I feel sorry for the fans… I had no clue it was going to be a red card, I was shocked.”
