THE transfers of the likes of Gael Clichy and Phil Jones may be perfectly good business for the clubs involved, but so far no moves have made me go ‘wowsers’.
However that could be about to change after Spurs boss Harry Redknapp dropped some major hints he would like his teamsheets to feature American-born Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi next season.
He said: “Rossi’s top drawer, he’s a clever player.
“He gets it into feet, he holds the ball up, he scores goals, and he’s the Italy centre-forward now.
“We tried to get him last year and I think the fee was £18million. That looks cheap now but he was a player we nearly had last year.
“But if you’re going to buy top players they cost top money. They are at a premium, they’re difficult to find.”
I had previously hinted at a welcome Premier League swoop for Rossi this Summer.
Let’s hope Spurs’ moneymen agree with Redknapp and I – in Goaltastic’s opinion the Villareal striker was probably La Liga’s best player not at Real Madrid or Barcelona last season.
