Women’s World Cup final most tweeted event ever

YESTERDAY’S dramatic Women’s World Cup win by Japan over the USA set Twitter a-flutter.
The micro-blogging site has confirmed that the game was responsible for a massive 7,196 tweets-per-second at its climax, closely followed by the end to the Copa America match-up between Paraguay and Brazil which set a staggering 7,166 to place second the very same day.
The previous record was set by Japanese folk celebrating New Year’s Eve 2010, which hit 6,939 tweets-per-second at its peak.
