VISITORS to German side Hoffenheim’s Rhein-Neckar-Arena claim to have been left with tinnitus – after a rogue employee installed a hidden speaker to drown them out.
The village-based Bundesliga side, bankrolled by billionaire Dietmar Hopp, have been met with howls of derision from visiting supporters who throw a barrage of insults at the side they see as unfairly punching above its weight.
And in a bid to stop the chanting, an employee of Hoffenheim’s installed a high frequency speaker under the visiting fans’ block to drown out the chants.
Police are now investigating the illigal installation.
A club statement says: “The employee wanted to use in his own words “an antidote” against the insults.
“All responsible apologise to all football fans whose playing experience was affected by these incidents. Should it be in some cases actually come to damage the health of stadium visitors, we apologise for this.”
