Goaltastic’s posts of the year 2011

WITH the New Year approaching faster than a Gareth Bale counter-attack, I believe the time is right to recap Goaltastic’s best blogs of 2011.
And when I say best, I mean most read.
In reverse order, they are…
10 – Manchester City signing Clichy once cheated death.
9 – My hilarious Fernando Torres April Fools post
8 – “Rooney, Rooney, Rooney”
7 – Roman Abramovich gets his chopper out
6 – Suarez signing excitement
5 – Manchester United to sign favourite son’s son
4 – Massive boobs story nets huge internet traffic spike shocker
3 – Boring Nasri to sign for Manchester City announcement
2 – Macheda accidentally confirmed the Sneijder deal which never actually happened
1 – The greatest football rumour of the year bar none. Seriously, this never gets old.
Happy New Year!

City set to actually splash the cash on Aguero

A BIT of an oddity for you here – a long running transfer story is set to actually come to fruition this week with Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero set to finalise a £38m move to Manchester City.
The 23-year-old Argentina international was at City’s Carrington training ground this morning having cut short a holiday in his homeland to fly in to finalise contract negotiations and undergo a medical.
Aguero, the son-in-law of Diego Maradona, said: “Just arrived in Manchester to finalise the details of signing with City.
“Everything is going very well!”
That’s how it’s done, Tevez/Fabregas/Sneijder et al.

Macheda lets slip Sneijder confirmation

GOD bless you Twitter!
It may be a bit of a poorly kept secret, but Manchester United striker Frederico Macheda has let out a leak from inside Old Trafford that Wesley Sneijder’s unveiling could be imminent.
The Italian took to the social networking site to say he hopes to see Inter Milan’s Dutch playmaker joining the club on their US tour very soon… before hastily deleting it again.
An official confirmation will be with us before the weekend, says Goaltastic.

Transfer Target XI

A LOT of silly names have been mentioned quite sillyly as it’s silly season.
A lot of these people will not be coming to play football in England – don;t be silly – but we can dream, eh?
So here’s my XI of players that have been mentioned in the gossip columns that I’d love to see in the Premier League next season.
Expect no more than two of them to actually come here.
Also, if you visit our Facebook page there’s a poll somewhere on there to vote for who you’d like to see next season, currently led by little Lionel Messi.
GK – De Gea
DEF – Godin, Subotic, Varane
MID – Ronaldo, Sneijder, Xavi, Kaka, Honda
ATK – Rossi, Ibrahimovic

Manchester United to use their best player as bait

MANCHESTER United’s Players’ Player of the Year Nani is set to be dangled like a worm on a hook in an attempt to land Wesley Sneijder.
The Inter Milan man is a top target for the Red Devils – and with the expected arrival a surplus of wingers is developing at Old Trafford.
As a result the Portuguese player Nani, despite being voted the best player in the team last season, could become a makeweight in a deal to land the £35m-rated Dutch midfielder who is wanted to pull the strings in United’s team.

Open question – who would you like to see in the Premier League next season?

THE rumours of a tug o’ war developing between Premier League clubs for the services of Wesley Sneijder certainly got Goaltastic’s appetite whetted yesterday.
If the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are looking to land talent of that quality, roll on August I say.
Over at Goaltastic’s Facebook site I’ve posted a poll, already featuring the likes of Sneijder, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Xavi, asking who you’d like to see heading to the Premiership next season.
Click here to find it and have your say…

Personally, I’d love to see Ronaldo trotting gazelle-like over English turf once more – there’s never a dull moment with that boy.

Man United to lose their player of the season?

REPORTS today suggest that red hot Red Devil Nani may be heading out of Old Trafford this summer – as a makeweight in a deal to sign Wesley Sneijder.
After becoming Manchester United’s player of the season to date, the constant threat of the Portuguese player is being coveted by the Italian giants.
And with Sneijder a long-term target of Sir Alex Ferguson to replace Paul Scholes’ midifeld string-pulling, the two clubs could be playing swapsies come the summer.
