Transfer Deadline Day XI

mario balotelli 2.jpeg
SO THE dust is now settling on another deadline day’s deals, and to help showcase some of the best business done today, here’s my top team of players who were on the move.
Minus Peter Odemwingie, for obvious reasons…
GK – Butland (Stoke)
DEF – Shea (Stoke), Samba (QPR), Monreal (Arsenal)
MID – Beckham (PSG), Jenas (QPR), Scharner (Wigan), Townsend (QPR)
ATK – Graham (Sunderland), Balotelli (AC Milan), Becchio (Norwich)

Deadline Day: Riquelme roamin’ to Southampton

juan roman riquelme.jpg
RUMOUR has it – or should that be wild speculation has it – that Southampton’s new manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to land a big name at the last minute today.
And his former teammate, Aregtinean playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme., could be just the man.
Currently a free agent, the 34-year-old former Villareal and Boca Juniors man is rumoured to be in the process of a last gasp move.

Deadline Day: Odemwingie saga takes unexpected twist

WOW, there’s wantaway and then there’s wantaway.
Wantaway striker Peter Odemwingie, who we reported earlier was after a move to QPR, has taken it upon himself to turn up at Loftus Road for talks.
This is despite the fact that West Brom haven’t yet agreed anything and haven’t given permission for Odemwingie to talk to Harry Redknapp and his club.
Let’s hope that West Brom lighten up over the affair – or training could be awkward tomorrow morning…

Deadline Day: Blues in for Fellaini?

marouane fellaini.jpeg
BE-AFROED beast of a midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been in the form of his life for Everton so far this season, and it’s not gone unnoticed…
Breaking rumours in the last few minutes suggest that Chelsea may be readying a massive bid in excess of £30m for the goal-getting midfielder, to add to their collection of goal-getting midfielders at Stamford Bridge.
It’s been a longstanding rumour that the Belgian could be leaving Everton at the end of the season, but surely that amount of money would be hard to ignore for the Toffees, should it turn out to be more than speculation.
After all, they have signed a perfect replacement in the form of FC Twente’s Leroy Fer already…

Deadline Day: Odemwingie winging his way to London?

peter odemwingie.jpg
WANTAWAY West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie could be on his way to Queens Park Rangers.
According to the Birmingham Mail, the Nigeria hitman is back in deadline day talks with QPR, despite previous discussions breaking down.
Julian Hoillett could be used as a makeweight in the deal.
Another shrewd but expensive move for Harry Redknapp on the cards?

Deadline Day: Beckham heading to Paris?

david beckham 2.jpeg
ACCORDING to Le Parisien newspaper, globetrotting Goldenballs David Beckham coul dbe heading to Paris St Germain.
The French club are reported to be looking at former Manchester United, LA Galaxy and Real Madrid veteran Beckham as well as Daniele De Rossi of Roma and Napoli’s Marek Hamsik.
A badly translated quote from the news source said: “A close adviser of English player 37, free after his departure from Los Angeles Galaxy Paris confided that “was on the short list,” before adding “no decision had yet been taken.””.
Oh la la!

Deadline Day: Golden Graham heading up the Boro

AND so it starts…
Transfer Deadline Day is looking like an interesting one this January – not yet 9 o’clock and already there are twists and turns.
Sunderland target Danny Graham, who was one of the main players in firing Swansea in to the Premier League, is now looking likely to be doing the same for Middlesbrough.
The deal is reported to have been hijacked by Boro boss Tony Mowbray for around £5m.

Deadline Day: Samba dancing into QPR?

chris samba.jpg
IF HARRY Redknapp and QPR are quiet today, I’ll eat a hat made entirely of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.
So the news that, in the wake of losing both Nelson and Ferdinand, a defender is on the cards is really no surprise.
Defensive monolith Chris Samba is rumoured to be returning to these shores after a stint at Russian moneybags Anzhi Makhachkala and will net a massive £100,000-a-week wage for his troubles, should the deal go through today.
What is amazing however, is that the grizzled centreback is only 28 years old still!?!
He looks 45 if he’s a day.

Happy Transfer Deadline Day, everyone!

IT’S the most wonderful time of the football year!
Transfer Deadline Day!
You might say it was a bit like Christmas Day for football fans.
I prefer to think about it more as Christmas Eve for football managers, with the likes of Harry Redknapp and Martin Jol frantically scraping around the empty supermarket shelves of the transfer market for a hidden gem or two to avoid an earbashing down the line.
Anyway, whatever happens today, Goaltastic plans on posting a few titbits here as things progress.
And if I don’t manage it, please get involved with the live blog below.
