Homecoming loan for Jenas

jermaine jenas.jpg
JERMAINE Jenas is moving back to Nottingham Forest from Spurs on loan.
The midfielder was born in the city and started a career which took in England, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur at Forest.
And today a club source told Goaltastic: “Nottingham Forest can confirm Jermaine Jenas is to return to the Club on an emergency loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
“The 29 year old year midfielder started his career at The City Ground, scoring four goals in 33 appearances as a Red.”

Carroll to sing to Sam Allardyce’s tune

andy carroll.jpeg
IF YOU were to imagine a player perfectly designed to to fit into Sam Allardyce’s tactics, then it would look a bit like Andy Carroll, perhaps with a better haircut.
And next season, West Ham fans and really everyone except opposing defenders can now look forward to balls being lumped up to footballing monster Andy Carroll, after a loan fee was agreed with Liverpool.
According to the BBC: “The deal for the England striker is with a view to a permanent transfer of £17m, providing West Ham United stay in the Premier League.
“However, it is thought Carroll does not wish to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis.”

West Ham tried to borrow Torres and Tevez

fernando torres.jpeg
LAST January’s rather uninspiring transfer window – hardly set alight by big name moves by the likes of Gary Cahill and Bobby Zamora – could have seen world renowned strikers Carlos Tevez and Fernando Torres on the move.
Because cheeky Championship club West Ham lodged loan bids with Chelsea and Manchester City for both the struggling strikers.
The pair – who cost an estimated combined £97m last time they moved clubs – could have been joined in attack for the Hammers for free, had both bids not been unsuprisingly rejected.
“We had two irons in the fire. If we’d pulled one off it would have been exciting but it wasn’t to be,” said co-chairman David Gold.

Goaltastic’s posts of the year 2011

WITH the New Year approaching faster than a Gareth Bale counter-attack, I believe the time is right to recap Goaltastic’s best blogs of 2011.
And when I say best, I mean most read.
In reverse order, they are…
10 – Manchester City signing Clichy once cheated death.
9 – My hilarious Fernando Torres April Fools post
8 – “Rooney, Rooney, Rooney”
7 – Roman Abramovich gets his chopper out
6 – Suarez signing excitement
5 – Manchester United to sign favourite son’s son
4 – Massive boobs story nets huge internet traffic spike shocker
3 – Boring Nasri to sign for Manchester City announcement
2 – Macheda accidentally confirmed the Sneijder deal which never actually happened
1 – The greatest football rumour of the year bar none. Seriously, this never gets old.
Happy New Year!

Real Madrid literally banking on Ronaldo and Kaka

cristiano ronaldo 2.jpeg
SPANISH side Real Madrid have had two of their top players used as collatoral against a bank loan.
Superstar midfielders Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka have been used a security for a loan from European Central Bank to Bankia.
The bizarre business transaction has been made possible as Bankia has in turn lent money to help the Madrid club to buy the pair for a combined 160m Euro.
Although unlikely, the move means that if Real Madrid defaults in its repayments to Bankia, and the Spanish bank in turn defaults on its repayments to the European Central Bank, a bank in Frankfurt would become owners of two of world football’s top talents.

Sven lines up Becks swoop

ACCORDING to today’s Sunday papers, Leicester City are looking to bring David Beckham home from the States.
Goldenballs could team up with his former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson in the East Midlands, after the MLS season comes to a close.
The LA Galaxy midfielder has previously used the American close season to keep up fitness levels at AC Milan – and the Foxes’ owners have been pushing Eriksson to put in a cheeky bid for Becks to do the same with them this season.
A source close to the Championship side’s Thai owners said: “This time the Raksriaksorn family are going all out to get Sven to bring Beckham to Leicester. Even they have been overwhelmed at how big Leicester have become here in Asia.
“They are keen to maintain the momentum and, of course, grow the club.
“Sven is in touch with Beckham, the funding is in place and they hope a deal can be done that will suit both parties. It will be good for everyone.”

Whoa dude! Burnley just got Trippier

kieran trippier.JPG
AS YOU can imagine, Goaltastic is a big fan of an unusual surname – so we heartily welcome the totally far out news that Burnley have signed Manchester City full-back Kieran Trippier on loan.
Groovy, man.
Hopefully the 20-year-old England Under-21 international can continue to get some game time on loan after being spaced out of the City squad – mainly so I have more chances to mention him in blog posts.

Goal-shy striker Fernando Torres shipped out on loan

fernando torres.JPG
CHELSEA have foolishly agreed to let misfiring striker Fernando Torres head out on loan to Championship chasing Leicester City – in order to finally get goals under his belt.
From two games before his £50m move from Liverpool in January up until April 1, Torres has failed to find the net for either club or country – and the Foxes, who have been keen to land a big player to appease their owners ongoing lust for a household name, have agreed to take the Spanish international to help him find his form in a lower league.
Sven Goran Eriksson, Leicester City manager, said: “Nando’s first half of the season was good… second, not so good.”

Villa defender reveals his shooting boots

kyle walker.jpg
VILLA’S sharp-shooting defender Kyle Walker has revealed the secret behind his recent scoring streak – he began life as a striker.
Full back Walker has been playing professional football for two years but hadn’t scored before his loan move from Spurs to Villa last month.
He said: “It’s just in my game. I used to be a centre-forward growing up. My first instinct is to get forward and shoot. Luckily it paid off and hopefully it will keep doing that.
“I’ve been frustrated not to score before but it’s not really my job to score goals. It’s my job to defend and get balls into the box for the strikers.”

Lookalike – Look of the Irish

stephen ireland and isaac ashe.JPG
LAST Friday on Goaltastic was Lookalike Friday – rather obviously a day dedicated to celebrating people that look like footballers.
It got me thinking – which player do I most resemble?
And on transfer deadline day, Newcastle new boy Stephen Ireland leapt out at me.
Figuratively, of course, he was much too busy signing on loan.
Observe the tiny pea heads and chin strap beards and… er that’s about it.
As always leave your lookalike suggestions below – including anybody or anything you can think of that looks like me, I promise can take it…
